Diwali Is November 8 This Year — Here's What to Actually Do Before Then
Quick reality check: Diwali 2026 falls on November 8. Today's mid-September, which means you've got about seven to eight weeks. That's either plenty of time or almost no time, depending entirely on whether you start now or wait until the last two weeks like most businesses do.
The Actual Calendar Between Now and Diwali
October 11 — Navratri begins. This is the real starting gun, not Diwali itself. Shopping activity — clothes, gifting, home stuff, jewelry — starts climbing well before the final week.
October 20 — Dussehra. Traditionally one of the most auspicious days to buy or start something new. If your business sells anything people associate with "new beginnings," this date matters almost as much as Diwali.
November 8 — Diwali. The actual peak. By this point your marketing should already be doing its job, not just starting.
What "Starting Now" Actually Means
It doesn't mean launching a campaign in mid-September. It means getting ready so you're not scrambling in late October like everyone else.
By early October: content and offers should be basically ready — photos taken, posts drafted, whatever needs producing already produced. Not perfect, just ready.
Around Navratri (Oct 11): this is when you start actually being visible. Teasers, early access, "coming soon" posts. Nobody else is really posting yet at this point, so you get seen without fighting for attention.
Dussehra through Diwali (Oct 20 – Nov 8): the real push. By now you're not introducing yourself to anyone — you've already built some visibility, so this period is about converting people who've already noticed you.
Why Most Businesses Get This Backwards
The instinct is to wait until it "feels like Diwali season" — usually the last two weeks of October. By then, every competitor is posting the same kind of content, ad costs go up because everyone's bidding for attention at once, and there's no time left to make anything that isn't rushed.
Starting in September or early October feels premature. It isn't. It's just early enough that you're not fighting anyone for attention yet.
If You're Reading This With Nothing Planned
You're genuinely fine. Seven weeks is enough time to do this properly, as long as you start now rather than in three weeks. The businesses that actually win this season aren't the ones with the biggest budget — they're the ones who weren't still figuring out their offer in the last week of October.
