If Your SEO Is Good, You're Already on the Right Track for AEO, GEO and AI Search
New acronyms keep showing up. AEO, GEO, LLM optimization. Every week someone tells you your SEO is outdated and you need something new.
Before you panic, here's a calmer way to look at it.
What these terms actually mean
- SEO is making your website easy for search engines to find and rank.
- AEO (answer engine optimization) is making your content easy to use as a direct answer to a question.
- GEO (generative engine optimization) is making your brand easy for AI tools to mention in their generated answers.
- LLM platforms are tools like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity.
Look at that list again. They all need the same thing at the root: clear, trustworthy, well-organised information about your business.
Why good SEO gives you a head start
AI answer tools generally lean on content that's already easy to find and understand. That's what good SEO builds:
- Useful content that answers real questions
- Clean structure with clear headings and fast loading pages
- Consistent business details everywhere online
- Reviews and mentions that show you're a real, active business
If those are in place, you have the foundation.
What to add on top
SEO is the base, but there's a thin layer you can add for AI answers:
- Answer first. Put the direct answer near the top of the page, then explain.
- Add an FAQ. Use the actual questions customers ask you.
- Keep details identical across your website, Google profile and directories.
- Get mentioned more widely. Articles, directories, Q&A sites, social profiles.
- Check how AI describes you. Ask a few AI tools about your service in your city, and see what comes back.
What if your SEO isn't good yet?
Then start there. No amount of new acronyms will fix thin pages, slow loading or inconsistent listings. Fix the basics and you improve in every kind of search at once.
At Designogram, a digital marketing agency in Ludhiana, we look at it that way: SEO first, then the AI layer on top.
The short version: don't throw SEO away. Build on it.
